RIP Molly Ivins

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I don’t care what your political views are, Molly Ivins was hilarious and a really unique voice.  I’ve loved reading her op eds for years and her books are hilarious.  Breast cancer.  Sad.

pay attention

I’m learning all kinds of lessons as we navigate the wonderful world of medical bills.  I was told to appeal EVERYTHING and watch EVERY charge, and contrary to my usual unorganized self, I’ve been very good about watching these bills and paying them on time and all of that.  I’m glad I did.  We got what I would call a “collections” notice on a bill a had never seen before at a hospital that Sean went to for a weeklong daily treatment.  I’m not used to getting collections letters so I really looked hard at the letter wondering how the charges could have happened.  I went back to my list of insurance notices, and not only did the date of service not match, but the insurance company said I owed $117 for the about $4000 worth of services, and the hospital said I owed $2500 dollars.  Now seeing that kind of amount made me paranoid, and I really was about to just write a check to get it paid so it didn’t affect my credit, but I’m so glad I checked it out.

It’s taken care of and the insurance company called them for me and assured me that this was not a collections notice, this was strong wording so people would pay a bill-  looks like I owe the 117- and that is a much better number.

short update

I keep thinking I’ll feel better and then the meds wear off and I’m back to square one again.  I’m being impatient and I know this- I’m just so tired of complications- tired of colds, ribs, skin flare-ups, etc.

Then the baby moves and I feel great.  I can’t wait.
